Armadale Uniting Church Congregational Minutes - February 2008
ARMADALE UNITING CHURCH
MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE CONGREGATION HELD IN THE CHURCH
3 FEBRUARY 2008PRESENT- Ian Thomas (chair), Rev John Smith and approximately 30 members, adherents and visitors.
MEETING OPENED at 11.20 am.
GENERAL BUSINESS
Parish Profile – Ian Thomas reported that the Joint Nominating Committee was well advanced with the preparation of a Parish Profile. Although at the time that notice of the present meeting had been given it had been hoped that the Parish Profile would have been able to be submitted to it, it was now planned to submit the Profile to a meeting of the Church Council on 6 February and then distribute drafts at next Sunday’s service (10 November). It was then planned that, all being well, the Profile would be able to be formally approved by the Congregation at the meeting to be held on 17 February (of which notice had been given during this morning’s service).
Process – Ian then introduced Rev John Smith, who is the Presbytery representative on the Joint Nominating Committee. John said that the process of making a call involves a number of steps, and the timing becomes a little complicated. However, John stressed that it is important that the process is handled correctly, as each step is part of the “checks and balances” built into the process.
The timings as presently envisaged are:
Church Council to approve Profile – Wednesday 6 February
Copies of Profile to be distributed to Congregation – Sunday 10 February
Congregational Meeting to approve Profile – Sunday 17 February
Profile presented to Presbytery Pastoral Relations Committee – 26 February
Profile presented to Presbytery Placements Committee – 1st week in March
[Just a clarifying comment on process from Judith 8Feb - "assuming all flows according to plan,
the profile will be presented at Placements Committee in the second week of
March, not the first."]
Following this, the Placements Committee provides the JNC with some names to consider.
Supply – Ian reported that the Pastoral Relations Committee had approved the Supply arrangements for Armadale. Martin Wright will conduct 3 services each month, and Rev David Beswick will conduct the Communion services on the 1st Sunday each month and on Easter Sunday. These arrangements apply until the end of May, but it may be possible to extend them if this becomes necessary (which is likely).
MEETING CLOSED at 11.35 am.
