ARMADALE UNITING CHURCH

MINUTES OF CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING HELD AT RITA BERRY ROOM

18 OCTOBER 2007

PRESENT-   Rev Judith Watkins (chair), Bruce McMullin, Lesley McMullin, Bill Rush, Ian Thomas, Betty Terrell, Robin Ahin, Nicholas Barclay, Lyn Ferguson, Margaret Turnbull, Graeme Harris.  

APOLOGIES -  David Fallick, Ann Lovell.

 

MEETING OPENED at 8.15 pm with a discussion of the parable of the Unjust Judge.

FAITH AND SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP

          A Church of Passionate Disciples -  This paper regarding membership of the Church (see http://assembly.uca.org.au/.) is to be considered by the Assembly after review by Standing Committee.  Council discussed the issues raised by the paper in some detail – see separate notes regarding the discussion.

GENERAL BUSINESS

In view of the time spent on the previous item, only essential General Business was considered, as follows:

          Combined lunch – with Holy Advent and Armadale Baptist: Suggested for 25 November (Christ the King).  It was considered to be most desirable that ecumenical events continue to occur.  If the lunch proceeds, AUC should endeavour to provide it (rather than all “bring a plate”).  Judith will discuss with her counterparts.

          Congregational meeting – scheduled for 18 November.

          Joint Service – Our desire to continue this should be set out in a letter from Council to Vestry.

          Retreat – to be held next Saturday.

          Camp – Planning proceeding, possibly now to be held at Adekate (near Creswick).  Numbers are modest, and Friday night is looking questionable.   However, other aspects are looking good.

          Community Concert – there issues re this, as Tuesday Singers seem very doubtful, and the Recorder group are having problems with the date.

          Leave – Judith will be on annual leave on 28 October. Andrew Delbridge will take the service.

          Justice project – it was noted that the forum had been successful and congratulations were extended to the East Stonnington Ministers Association, especially Judith, and to all others involved. 

 

PASTORAL CONCERNS – Amongst others, Colin (due for surgery).

 

NEXT MEETING - 3rd Thursday of November – 15 November, at the Reta Berry Room, 8.15 pm
